How the Big Five Romance Publishing Houses Make Gay Characters Disappear
At a recent Sci Fi Convention in the U.S. I was sitting on a panel on Building Your Character’s Back Story and a fellow panelist revealed she was quarreling with her publisher because in her most recent novel she had an expository character — a character that existed to help the hero/ine tell his/her/it/they/them/Mz story — that was gay. What is this thing with Zombies!!!
I was ignoring them, the creapers, the eaters, the shamblers, the mutterers, the dripping, the splitting, the falling apart. I was content to consider them proof that some people would watch/read anything and then I was approached by someone putting together — and I quote — a collection of zombie romance short stories.
What was that there now? Who the what which???

About Dee
D.L. Carter is a talented author who loves to mix humor and history in her stories. She enjoys creating strong characters who challenge the world around them. With a unique writing style, D.L. Carter has gained a dedicated following of readers.

D.L. (Dee Leana) Carter was decanted from her incubation pod in the outback of Australia many decades ago. This terrifying event was closely followed by shrieks of “there, there it goes. Hit it with a brick!”
These valiant attempts to correct the existence of D.L. were, unfortunately, unsuccessful and she now resides in New Jersey, US., in a box with her toys, a human being, and a variable number of cats, writing humorous romances in the regency, elvish and paranormal universes. If she appears distracted when you speak to her, please wave tea – (Pu erh– Hot) – under nose. (cream, two sugar)

While rumours abound that D. L. Carter is the name for an infinite number of cats on an infinite number of typewriters pretending to be an AI, she does exist in the real world, and occasionally at conventions.
